The Shard: Europe’s tallest building opens today

There has been a lot of fuss in the British press about the inauguration of Europe’s tallest building, the Shard. A journalist have said the building is the “perfect metaphor for how the capital is being transformed – for the worse. The skyscraper both encapsulates and extends the ways in which London is becoming more unequal and dangerously dependent on hot money.” Well, it might be. To me, though, it just looks like a fabulous building.

Within 7 hours it will be possible to watch the live inauguration online and in the next months, people will be able to work, visit, dine and even live – yes, it has flats in it – in the Shard.

  1. I’ve watched this building grow and think it looks great. Cities are never about equality.
